I am fascinated by the concept of human expression through the body. Our faces and words are fairly readable and identifiable. Capturing what the entire body is suggesting delves into a deeper level of communication, one far more ambiguous. I was fortunate to be a student of life drawing, using actual models to pose as we scrambled to capture our initial interpretations. Given my interest in body language, I rarely attempt to portray a face in detail. These drawings are of two women who were regular models, using charcoal to quickly capture the geometry of the composition. Shading and highlights were added afterwards.
